REIKI SESSIONS

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing which originated in Japan. During a session, a calming energy flows from the hands of the practitioner and into the client.

The practice of Reiki is based on the idea that there is a universal life force energy that flows through us all.  When we are experiencing stress, illness, or difficult times, our energy centers (chakras) can become blocked or out of balance. Reiki practitioners learn to channel this energy to unblock and balance the client's chakras and promote a state of harmony in the body.

Reiki is either performed as a hands on (gentle touch) or hands off (with hands hovering slightly above the client's body) technique and can also be performed by a method known as distance healing. It is a holistic therapy and therefore works to promote a state of balance between our mind, body, heart and soul. It always works for our highest and greatest good and is therefore a safe therapy to use alongside other treatments. Reiki has been such a blessing in my own life and on my journey to heal my nervous system.

I offer sessions in Newington in South Edinburgh, via home visits in Edinburgh and the Borders, and via meditation sessions online.

How can Reiki help me?

Reiki is mostly associated with deep relaxation and can therefore benefit anyone in need of a calming and nurturing experience (which I think is most of us!).

It can also benefit you if you are suffering from nervous system dysregulation or are stuck in survival mode, since it promotes restorative, healing rest and creates a sense of safety in the body.

Previous clients and I have also found Reiki to provide support with.....

-Insomnia

-Stress relief

-Pain relief

-Burnout

-Energy depletion

-Tension in the body

-Digestive issues

-Emotional Healing

-An overactive mind

It can also be used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine to ease the side effects often associated with treatments (such as chemotherapy) or the distress associated with physical or mental illness.

However, you don't need to be suffering from a condition or symptom to benefit from Reiki. Even if you are in good health, it is an incredible tool to help you nurture yourself, restore your energy levels and escape from the busyness of the modern world!

“I came to Ashley for Reiki because I had terrible neuralgia in my face. I was very stressed and anxious with the pain and was quite dubious about Reiki. But it was amazing! She made me feel so relaxed and talked to me to explain what she was doing. She was very calm and made me calm. I felt wonderful after my sessions and my pain eased off which was a miracle for me. It left me less anxious also and looking forward to my next sessions. I would definitely recommend Ashley to family and friends, she's wonderful!"

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

A Reiki session typically takes place in a calm and relaxing environment. You'll be fully clothed (except for coat and shoes) and comfortably positioned either lying on a massage table or sitting in a chair. The Reiki practitioner will gently place their hands on or slightly above specific points on your body. They'll hold these hand positions for a few minutes each. You won't feel any pressure or massage, only gentle touch, during the treatment.

Can I still have a Reiki treatment if I have a chronic health condition?

Yes, Reiki is generally considered safe to use alongside conventional medical treatment for various health conditions. It can help with relaxation and managing stress, which can be beneficial for your overall health and wellbeing. However, it's important to consult with your doctor if you have a health condition or take medications before starting any complementary therapy, including Reiki.

Are there any circumstances where Reiki is not appropriate?

While generally safe, Reiki might not be advisable immediately following surgery, for open wounds or if you have a pacemaker. Reiki should not be used as a substitute for urgent medical care.

Are there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?

Reiki is known for its gentle and relaxing effects. In rare cases, people may experience temporary detoxification symptoms like fatigue or a mild headache after a session, which are completely normal. These are usually mild and short-lived and you can help your body through the process by drinking plenty of water and resting.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

The experience of Reiki varies for everyone. Some people report feeling warmth or tingling sensations where the practitioner's hands are placed. Others may feel a sense of deep relaxation or see calming images and colours. It's also perfectly normal to not feel anything specific during the session, but rest assured that Reiki will still be working for your highest good.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of Reiki sessions you need depends on your individual goals and how you respond to the treatment. Some people feel benefits after just one session, while others may choose to have multiple sessions over a period of time. We will always discuss your goals at the start of your journey and take it from there.
